Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron Set for Mad Max 4?

We have known for sometime that a fourth Mad Max film was going to be developed. Sadly, we have also known that Mel Gibson was not going to be involved. Back in March, George Miller revealed that they were “going a different route.”

It was also proposed that the film would be in 3D anime at the time. We do not know if that is still the case but the last update we got was that the production was very interested in Jeremy Renner after his critical performance in the acclaimed The Hurt Locker.

Renner said he was going to meet Miller and screentest. I guess nothing has come from that as E! Online reports that Tom Hardy may be the guy they want.

“Instead, Miller is looking at little-known Brit Tom Hardy, whose credits include Black Hawk Down andBand of Brothers, to play opposite Theron.”

For the uber-geeks Hardy also played Shinzon, the Romulan-Picard clone villain in Star Trek: Nemesis. The quote mentioned Theron, yes that is Charlize Theron. Multiple sources tell E! News that she is director George Miller’s pick to play the lead female role in the upcoming, Mel-less Mad Max 4.

The article also says the “Mad Max revamp is a long way from fruition, and Miller is being very secretive about the roles and plot. Actors auditioning for the film have only been given a letter for their character’s name. The studio has yet to sign off on Miller’s choices, and no formal offers have been made.”

Well guess we know they are still planning on the film, anime, 3D or not. I wouldn’t mind seeing Theron kicking some leather clad butt in the film that is for sure.

Last week we reported that Charlize Theron may be up for the female lead in the next installment of Mad Max being directed by George Miller. Tom Hardy was also rumored to be involved as well but his capacity was unknown until now.

Hardy is being confirmed by THR’s Heat Vision Blog as the new “Mad” Max Rockatansky in the fourth installment of the series. Hardy, a British born actor, is recently known for his role in Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla but to Star Trek fans he is known for the role of Shinzon, the Romulan-Picard clone, in Star Trek: Nemesis.

The story details are being kept under wraps, however, the film’s story is said to take place after the story laid out in 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

At some point Sam Worthington was rumored for the role of the character but Hardy’s involvement was hinted way before Worthington’s name was thrown around. Over the past weekend Miller held a press junket on the film in his home of Australia to announce the project as away to bring back the iconic character but to revamp the film industry in Aussieland and how the it will bring jobs, etc because the movie will take 2 years to make.

In that press junket though he mentioned that no casting decisions had been made nor was anything on the internet substantial and that he could “speculate” on who the lead role would go to even joking “it could be Mel or anyone.”

Well I guess Hardy is anyone.
